y_be_fit

A staff of faculty and students trained in fitness and health promotion manages the Y-BE-FIT program. While the Wellness Program focuses on group events, Y-Be-Fit is a personalized, one-on-one assessment and counseling program to specifically identify and target your health needs. Disease prevention and lifestyle modification are the two main areas of focus throughout the individualized 4-month program.

BYU Turkey Trot

ENTRIES OPEN
November 19, 2009 from 3:15-3:45 p.m.
DAYS, TIMES, AND LOCATION
The race will take place on Thursday, November 19, at 4:00 p.m. A detailed map of the course will be
available the day of the race.
DIVISIONS
Separate divisions for men and women in the following categories: Student and Faculty/Staff.
REGISTRATION
All participants need to register with the activity supervisor prior to the race, between 3:15 p.m. and 3:45
p.m. Registration will take place in the Quad between the Richards Building and the Smith Field house.
All participants will need to show a valid (government, school, or work issued) picture ID. Picture
ID printouts are not acceptable. Part-time and non-students will need to show their paid receipt for the
intramural activity fee.
ELIGIBILITY
Fall 2009 full-time students (12 credits), and faculty/staff are eligible. Part-time students, deferred
students, non-students, and spouses of students must pay an intramural activity fee for each semester in
which they participate. Non-students must be active members of a BYU ward and their membership
records must reside in the BYU ward that they attend. Track and cross-country intercollegiate athletes
are not eligible.
The intramural activity fee is paid at the HHP College Services Office in 112 Richards Building. The
cost is $20.00 per semester during fall/winter and $10.00 for spring and summer terms. A BYU ID or
BYU Net ID with valid picture ID is required at time of payment. This fee will enable a participant to
compete in any intramural activity during the appropriate semester.
AWARDS
Macey’s Food Gift Cards will be awarded to the top three runners in the men’s and women’s student
divisions and to the top runner in both the men’s and women’s Faculty/Staff divisions. Divisions must
have four or more entries to be eligible for awards. First place runners in each division will receive an
Intramural Champion T-shirt. There will also be a random drawing for last year’s Intramural Champion
T-shirt and Macey’s Food Gift Cards. No double winners. All finishers are eligible for the drawing.

Take adavantage of your time here at BYU by taking a cooking class! SFL 110 Food Preparation in the Home is a great way to learn some basic cooking skills so that you can prepare healthy meals for your self and your family. byu.edu for more info

Turkey Tri and 5k Turkey Trot

Other: Morning of registration will start at 6am and end at 7:15 for an additional $15. Packet pick up also starts at 6 am and will end at 7:30

Bike Course: The bike course is a two loop set up(10 miles). This is a short course but challenging with two BIG climbs up 4th South. Be prepared for any weather conditions. Last year we had temps at around 45 degrees for the bike ride but be prepared for colder.

Swim Course: The swim course is the last of the three disciplines and is indoor at the Orem Fitness Center. This is a 350 meter swim in a 50 meter pool. Participants will enter one end and finish at the other end. It is a snake style swim meaning the you swim 50 and snake under the line and swim the next 50. All swimmers will be traveling the same direction in their respective lanes. Water temps are around 80 degrees.

Cougar Tri

Get ready for the 2nd annual BYU True Cougar Triathlon! The race will be October 17th 2009 at 9 AM at the Richards Building. This race is the ideal for beginners or for people who are looking to do an inexpensive and unique race. The race will be held completely on the BYU campus! The race will go as follows:

  • 1.8 mile run through BYU campus (followed the 3k course)
  • 6.2 mile bike around BYU campus (followed the 5k course twice)
  • 200 yard swim in the RB pool (snake style – down one lane, back the next, etc.)

If you are looking for some motivation to start working out more I recommended getting ready for this little race. Its a great work out and would be very do able even if you have no triathlon experience! For more info on how to register go to http://www.byutriathlon.com/
